Living the dramatic life...

I began acting at the age of eight while in 3rd grade at Edgewood Elementary School (which no longer exists) in South Pacific with Okemos High School. Even younger than that though, I got the acting/stage bug at 3 when my Mother had me in dance and piano lessons. I loved performing in front of an audience. It made me feel like I had everyone's attention, and complete control over the crowd. At the age of 9, I got the opportunity to do "Rip Van Winkle" with Lansing Community College Theater Department alongside my future High School vocal coach and friend, Marilyn Pierce.
I became obsessed with singing and dancing. Throughout Middle School I was in all 3 shows, as well as Honors Choir where I received many vocal awards, certificates, and medals for Solo and Ensembles, and state vocal competitions. I continued dancing until the age of 12, but then had to quit, which proved to be a huge mistake looking back on it. In Middle School I was on a softball team, became a cheerleader, and the plays and homework were taking up all of my time. I was babysitting and working at a family deli as young as 14, so I was a very busy girl.
In 6th grade I took on the part of a singing monkey named Itchy in the production of Circus, followed in 7th Grade as a lost boy in Peter Pan named Nibs, and then was chorus in the 8th grade production of A Little Princess. High School brought 8 more shows to my resume beginning with Crazy For You, followed by Hello Dolly, Berkley Square, A Show For The Ages, Great All American Musical Disaster, Our Town, Fiddler On The Roof, and State Fair. At Grand Valley State University and Allendale Civic Theater, I performed in Dutchman, Little Princess, Enchanted Sleeping Beauty, Sleepy Hollow, and directed for The Vagina Monologues.
Community Theater here in Lansing is a true love, a wonderful welcoming group of people, and great friendships. It allows me to continue practicing public speaking/singing/performance until I make it out to New York or Chicago to do theater professionally.
I received my B.A. in Theater with a minor in communications from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI in December of 2007. Thank you to all my friends, teachers/professors, and supporters along the way : )
